Greetings Cub Scouts and Cub Scout Parents:
This weekend marks our annual Cub Scout Advancement and Webelos Graduation
Weekend. Below and attached is the April Cub Scout Shout which on page 3
contains critical information for this weekend.
Some special reminders:
1. This is family camping so every boy that camps must camp with a parent.
2. Each family will need to bring food for three meals: Saturday breakfast,
Saturday lunch, and for the pot luck for Saturday night. The Boy Scouts
will be providing Sunday breakfast.
3. Those camping can begin setting up at 5:00 p.m. on the West side of the
lake where designated.
4. The advancement and graduation ceremony begins at 7:30. (Bring lawn
chairs and bug spray)
5. Even if not camping, there are wonderful activities planned for
Saturday, so be sure and come back.
I look forward to seeing you there.
David Simmons
P.S. We do have a new treasurer: Lisa Hunkele. Welcome aboard Lisa. So long
Harvey. Thanks for all your work.

MAY THEME “LEAVE NOTHING BUT FOOTPRINTS”
Warm weather is a perfect time for outdoor adventure, complete with den
hikes in the neighborhood, in a park, or on local trails. As we enjoy our
outdoor world we should strive to take nothing but pictures and leave nothing
but footprints. Learn how Leave No Trace frontcountry guidelines and ways
we can minimize our impact on the environment. Take a backyard hike and
practice the Leave No Trace frontcountry guidelines. Have a test to see who can
take the best wildlife photograph. Earn the Cub Scout Leave No Trace
Awareness Award. Do your Good Turn and leave these areas cleaner than you found
them. Remember to record your service with Good Turn for America at
_www.goodturnforamerica.org_ (http://www.goodturnforamerica.org/) . The Graduation
Weekend has all dens moving up the Cub Scout trail. You might want to
consider working on the Wildlife Conservation belt loop and pin this month.
The Pack Meeting this month will be held during the Webelos Graduation
Weekend on May 8-May 10 at Spring Lake Park, Baldwin City.
ATTA BOYS
Congratulations to the following boys for earning their rank advancement:
Webelos – Jordan Peery for earning all 20 Webelos pins
Bear – Timothy Phillips
Wolf - Prax Meyer, Carter Hall, Joss Bathke
SCOUTING FOR FOOD
We had a small but hearty band of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts picking up
food for the Community Emergency Fund’s Food Pantry on March 28, including
Martin Tomlinson. It was cold and wet but the Scouts picked up lots of items
for the Food Pantry. Thanks for doing your good turn.
MEMORIAL DAY FLAGS
The Cub Scouts of Pack 3065 will once again help put out flags at Oakwood
Cemetery at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. We will pick them up Monday, May
25 at 4:30 p.m.
There is also a U.S. Flag Retirement Service at 3:00 p.m. in Lawrence
conducted by Troop 60 at VFW Hall, 138 Alabama. All Scouts are encouraged to
attend.
DEN REPORTS
Webelos II Den 5 has attended a couple of Boy Scout meetings and the
Scouts are starting to work on some of the requirements to earn our Tenderfoot
rank. We will be spending the next several weeks working on our physical
activities to improve the baseline marks that were set during the last den
meeting. The activities include a ¼ mile run, standing broad jump, sit ups,
pushups and pull-ups. We are excited to join the Boy Scouts during
Graduation Weekend. All of us Webelos would like to thank our parents for all of
their support during our Cub Scout years. We will decide at the Pack
Meeting on Thursday whether to continue to have den meetings or start attending
the regular Boy Scout meetings on Mondays.
Webelos I Den 3 Scouts are working hard toward earning compass points and
the Arrow of Light. We have been working on our Art, Readyman and Scholar
achievements. The den meetings have moved to Tuesdays after school at the
Wessling house. The boys are looking forward to Webelos camp this summer and
for our family camp out in May. We will be practicing a skit to perform for
the pack at the graduation ceremony, because there is always a little
extra waiting time before the sun begins to set and the ceremony starts.
Bear Den 8 worked on and earned our Science belt loop this past week.
Scouts learned about the scientific process and conducted a few experiments.
We even made our own slime. Our last den meeting is April 29th. We will not
meet again until graduation weekend in May.
Wolf Den 1 will be finishing up the den flag at the April 20 meeting. We
have at least 2 boys and their parents going to Bear Camp. We are ready to
become Bears.
CUBMASTER’S CORNER
By Kellie Phillips
I started in Boy Scouts with my son Thomas 6 years ago. I had a den of 13
boys. Before that I was a Girl Scout leader from daisies all the way up to
juniors with both my girls. Now I am the Cubmaster. I enjoy overseeing the
pack meeting and finding activities for the Cubs to do at the pack meetings.
I have great leaders who help come up with our ideas. Without them I would
be at a loss. The best part of being a Cubmaster is watching the boys have
fun and learn fun things to do in Scouts. I can still enjoy being with
the boys. My favorite things are the pinewood derby race and getting just as
dirty as the boys on campouts! More the mud, better the fun!
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO SIGN UP FOR CUB SCOUT SUMMER CAMPS. Call David
Simmons at (785) 691-9836 if you are interested or have questions. We do have
some campership money for boys who want to go to a Cub Scout Camp this
summer. That’s why we sold popcorn and wreaths.
HELP WANTED: Cub Scout Pack Treasurer. Opening due to the retirement of
longtime Treasurer Harvey Ward. The task is fairly straightforward with
keeping the Pack’s checking account and paying bills. It doesn’t require too
much time. A self-starter could expand it into the electronic age and start
tracking all of the individual boys’ accounts to motivate fund raising for
specific goals (day camp, bear camp, webelos camp or other special events
the pack could attend). Does not have to be a Cub Scout parent. If you are
interested or know of someone who might be willing to help out in this
capacity, call David Simmons at (785) 691-9836.
