[scouts] Klondike Derby

Hi John,

Could you tell us a little more about the Klondike Derby?  What is it?  What do the kids do to compete?  What is a sled used for and does Scott need to make one?  

Sorry for all the questions, Scott is playing basketball and has practice on Mondays 7:30-8:30 and Wednesdays and games on Saturdays so he has missed all of January and will be tied up for most of February as well.  He thinks he would like to attend but since he doesn't know what it is, he is not sure.

Also, we need some guidance as far as how the troop works.  Can you tell us who leads Scott's patrol?  Who is in his patrol? We are new in Baldwin so we don't really know many of the boys yet. Scott's been coming to the meetings since last February when he graduated from his Cub Scout group in Lawrence but I don't think he has earned but a few badges???  What should he be focusing on?  Do they do this as a patrol or is it done individually?  Who does he need to get things checked off by?

Scott has really enjoyed the campouts and the troop in general - just want to be more in tune with what's going on.
