Subject: [scouts] Philmont 2010!

As you have no doubt heard via previous communication........"We have a
reservation at Philmont for the summer of 2010!" and as a couple of old
sayings go - "75% of scouting is outing" and "we can't have fun without u in
the middle"!

We have several opportunities remaining for potentially the most awesome
experience of your scouting career! Several things need to be done by early
fall (crew leader selection, trek selection, gear preparation, training
-hiking and backpacking campouts), including making a major payment to
Philmont. The list of attendees needs to be finalized ASAP to make that
happen. If you are interested please read the attached website information
and contact me as soon as possible!

Our stay at Philmont is from July 3rd through July 15th, 2010 with tentative
travel plans via train that will add a day to each end of the trip
(departing Baldwin July 2 and returning on July 16th).

The cost for Philmont is $620, with $60 due on 8/1 and then 7 monthly
payments of $80 starting 9/1. We have already paid a deposit of $50 per
spot with payments of $285 due in October and March. If you would prefer
you can pay at any rate you chose as long as you meet the Philmont payment
schedule. In the past the monthly payment schedule was appreciated. Your
scout fund can be used to pay for any of these expenses. Once the crew is
organized if additional fundraising is desirable the crew will have that
option.

Transportation will be paid for from the High Adventure fund, approximately
$200 per person will be budgeted for the train ticket (currently $158) and
bus transportation from Raton, NM to Philmont. There are also some museums
that may be visited during the acclimation or recuperation periods, the
entry fee for those will come from this fund as well.

And then there is gear and spending money. If you are going to buy new
boots, backpack, light weight sleeping bag and high tech rain gear you could
easily spend $300-$400 or more. However, some borrowing and creative bargain
shopping can greatly reduce that amount. Spending money - you should allow
anywhere from $5 to over $100 depending on your shopping habits. If you
have any questions about gear let me know. I have some Philmont quality
stuff that I don't think is going to get used next summer.

There is a big payment ($285 per spot) due to Philmont in October and once
we get close to that we will need to start filling our blank spots from
other troops, so don't delay, sign up today!

Thanks

Yours in scouting

Mark Shuck
